Kids 4 Christ and Mustard Seeds meet once a month on Sundays after worship. They begin building relationships with each other by eating and playing together as well as entering into activities designed to make the Bible come alive. Kids 4 Christ is for children Kindergarten – Second Grade and Mustard Seeds is for Third and Fourth Graders. These groups spend part of their time as a combined group and part separated to allow for age appropriate dialog.
Advent marks certain age-related milestones with something special to continue that child’s Christian journey. Milestones for this group include First Communion Class and 3rd grade bibles.
Both groups engage in service activities such as putting together food bags for homeless neighbors, collecting for the Souper Bowl of Caring and providing treats for our homeless neighbors who stay overnight during Room in the Inn.
The focus of this group is on service. Each year, this group serves the community individually as well as attending an offsite service activity as a group. This year, they will be attending an Asheville Youth Mission program in the spring that includes volunteering at a ministry worksite, an urban awareness walk, an evening debriefing program, and morning worship.
Advent Lutheran offers a two-year program for young people ready for Confirmation. Click here to learn more about this enriching experience.
Older youth gather for fellowship, fun and service on a regular basis. They are known for “pop-up” trips to the movies, games of Quidditch and cookie bakes. Their continuing education includes a rotation of summer retreats, the ELCA National Youth Gathering as well as longer mission trips. This summer, the high school youth will be helping rebuild in the Wilmington, NC community following the devastating flooding from Hurricane Michael.
